About this Club
Rowing is a sport which dates back to ancient Egyptian times. It involves propelling the boat on water using oars, a force is generated to move the boat. The sport can be either recreational, for enjoyment or fitness, or competitive, where athletes race against each other in boats. There are different boat types in which athletes can use, from the light single scull to the eight-person boat along with coxswain.
Rowing usually happens in a 2km stretch, where the competitors vie to cover the distance in the shortest time. There are various events based on the type of the boat, the number of people in the boat and the distance to be covered. There are two main boat types, the scull and the sweep.
Rowing is said to be one of the most demanding sports, engaging the full body during the exercise. Sportsmen start training months in advance to prepare for one competition in a year. Since rowing isn't so popular in India, competitions are only held in the national level.
